Polly Pocket began in 1983 with a powder compact. Chris Wiggs built a tiny house inside one for his daughter, and by 1989 the idea was on toy shelves: plastic compacts shaped like hearts, shells and circles, each opening onto a home, a school or a party with a doll smaller than a fingertip.
The 1990s compacts are the ones grown-up fans remember — the Partytime Stamper, the ring cases, the clam-shell houses. In 1998 Mattel took over the brand and the dolls grew taller with rubber clothes; later generations brought them back down to micro size and returned to the compact itself.
Today's Polly Pocket keeps both sides of that story. Compact playsets for kids four and up open into two levels with surprise reveals and fidget exteriors, while heritage and collector editions remake classic designs and shrink pop culture — Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Wicked, Barbie Dreamhouse — into the same pocket-size case.

Toddler Favorite Got this for my 4 year old for Christmas. Someone had told me that these are great for going out to restaurants, etc. This has been, hands down, my 4 year old's favorite Christmas present. She plays with it ALL the time and takes it everywhere. Good quality, well build, only 3 loose pieces so it's not much to keep track of.

Granddaughter loves it These have been around forever - my daughter had them, but this little case has so much stuff in it my granddaughter was squealing with delight. It was a great price, she can take it anywhere, no assembly needed, and it has a closure that won’t open easily which is great feature so all the tiny pieces don’t just fall out. Great concept and adorable case.

Great toy for 6 year old! Bought this for my 6 year old daughter and she loves playing with it. A few close calls with losing the dolls (they are so small), but luckily was able to find them each time so far. She can also take it with her - in the yard, all over the house, and to our cabin. She loves it! I would recommend!

So fun! Our 6yr daughter loves Polly pocket and has a lot of fun playing with this set. She loves being able to change Polly from the bigger figure to the tiny one! The mini Polly figure is rubber and has a tiny skateboard she sticks to. Our doesn't stick anymore, so we will figure out how to get her to stick again

Cute and good price This is a cute Polly pocket set . The size is perfect to stuff in a take a long bag and give hours of entertainment while on an outting. My 5yr old does need some help opening the door. The built is decent. I wasn’t missing any pieces and it has been dropped a few times and held up.

Nice addition for Polly Pocket fans My 4yr old granddaughter really enjoyed this addition to her Polly Pocket collection. She especially liked the miniature Polly and gear that tucks away in the trunk. Good price too!
Yes. Polly Pocket is an active Mattel brand with new compacts, playsets and collector editions every season, and the line celebrated its 35th anniversary with heritage remakes.
Most compacts and playsets are for ages four and up because of the small parts. Collector editions are labeled 14+.
Yes. Micro dolls and accessories share standard pegs and slots, so pieces move freely between compacts and playsets.
Every compact closes with the pieces inside, and many have a handle, a strap or a keychain clip.
Among vintage pieces, complete early-1990s compacts with every doll are the hardest to find. Today's boxed heritage and collector editions are produced in smaller runs and also tend to sell out.
Each product's button opens its current listing; the order, delivery and any return are handled there by the store that sells it.
There are five main kinds of Polly Pocket toys. Compact playsets are the classic: a themed case with one or two micro dolls, a pet and accessories. Collector compacts and partnership sets bring characters from movies and shows into the same format. Big playsets — houses, shops, vehicles and boats — hold more dolls and add water play. Wearables, purses and keychains are made to carry, and advent calendars, party packs and apparel round out the collection.
Each compact opens on a hinge, and the inside is molded as a little room or landscape. Micro dolls stand on pegs, accessories clip into place, and a few sets add moving parts: a spinning stage, a slide, an elevator, a flip that turns one play surface into another. When the lid closes the dolls stay put, which is why parents keep coming back to Polly Pocket for car trips.
Kids four to six usually do best with a single compact and one doll, where pieces are fewer and easier to find. From about six, the bigger playsets and 2-in-1 wearables add more story. Collector compacts carry an age 14+ rating and are aimed at fans who display them.
Micro dolls and most accessories are interchangeable across compacts, so a growing collection turns into a town: the Pollyville stores, the gelato house, the glamping van and the compacts all connect on one floor. A carry case or the compacts themselves keep the tiny pieces together.
Polly is the girl at the center of it all, joined by her friends Shani, Lila, Nicolas and a long list of mini dolls and pet figures. Polly Pocket dolls come in two sizes: the micro dolls that live inside compacts, and the slightly taller three-inch dolls of the hoodie, fashion and active pose lines. Both sizes mix with the pony, bear, bunny and puppy figures, so every Polly Pocket set can borrow friends from another.
The sets families pick most often are the food-themed compacts — ice cream, bubble tea, gumball and fruit — the 2-in-1 wearable compacts, and big playsets like the Resort Roll Away and the Large Gelato House. Among collectors, the Harry Potter, Stranger Things and Barbie Dreamhouse compacts are the popular Polly Pocket collector picks, along with heritage remakes of the ring box and stamper compacts from the 1990s.
Recent Polly Pocket toys lean into bright colors, glitter and color-change pieces, and many now hang from a keychain or clip so the miniature world can ride on a backpack. Charm bracelets, keychain BFF compacts and the unicorn backpack are made for on-the-go play — the toy goes wherever the girl or boy carrying it goes.
What keeps Polly Pocket fun after the first unboxing is how much creative play fits in a few square inches. A compact opens to reveal rooms, a dollhouse, a pony stable or an ice cream shop; close it and the story pauses. Kids expand the world by adding sets, mixing accessories and building their own Pollyville on the bedroom floor, one tiny scene at a time.
Each new season brings a fresh assortment. The Barbie Dreamhouse compact comes with Polly's friends Barbie and Brooklyn as micro dolls, a puppy, a pool and an elevator; the Monster High compact turns the Skullette into a playset; the keepsake collection and the 80th anniversary set dress the classic compact in special packaging for collectors. Food themes keep growing too, from the pineapple and blueberry compacts to the gelato house, and every portable animal case — monkey, sloth, hedgehog, panda — opens onto a clever little world that kids can imagine endless possibilities around.
A single compact under twenty dollars makes an easy party gift, a big playset or an advent calendar works for birthdays and holidays, and a collector compact in its window box is a thoughtful present for an adult fan. Many Polly Pocket sets list the number of dolls and accessories on each page here, so you can compare what comes inside before choosing.
